Concrete can be sexy
Here are a few photos of the curious pod-like growth that has appeared in London's Bedford Square. This is the DRL TEN Pavilion, designed to celebrate the first 10 years of the Architectural Association's Design Research Labs, situated in the square. A competition was set for all 345 of the AA's graduates to design a pavilion - 'an innovative structure that would utilise 13mm thick fibre-reinforced concrete panels, normally used as cladding material'. The winners - Alan Dempsey and Alvin Huang - have certainly shown that concrete doesn't have to be dull.
